Shipwreck Lodge on the Skeleton Coast
Where the desert meets the Atlantic, Shipwreck Lodge offers an otherworldly stay amid dunes and fog. Here’s how to plan the trip.
The Skeleton Coast is one of Namibia’s most dramatic landscapes: endless dunes, shipwrecks, and a cold, foggy ocean. Shipwreck Lodge sits in the heart of it—a cluster of cabin-style rooms that look like beached hulls, with nothing but sand and sea for miles.
Why go You get exclusive access to a remote stretch of the coast, guided drives along the shore, and the chance to see desert-adapted wildlife and seal colonies. Days are cool and often misty; the light is unreal for photography.
What to do Spend at least two nights. Mornings are for 4×4 excursions along the coast and into the dunes; afternoons you can relax at the lodge or join a nature drive. Don’t skip the walk to the nearby shipwreck—it’s the postcard shot.
Getting there Most guests fly from Windhoek to the coast or drive from Swakopmund. The lodge arranges transfers; self-drive is possible with a 4×4 and prior permission.
